De voorbije academiejaren kreeg het Conservatorium het gezelschap van een Florentijns viertal met een bijzondere missie: de Italiaanse muziekliteratuur voor strijkkwartet doen heropleven. Op originele instrumenten, welteverstaan. Als manama en postgraduaats-studenten volgden ze hiervoor les bij Alessandro Moccia. Na zich op Vincenzo Manfredini te hebben gestort, blikt het Quartetto Delfico nu de integrale (achttien!) kwartetten in van Gaetano Donizetti. Deze verwaarloosde werken bieden een staaltje compositorische kunde uit de jaren 1820-30, met innemende zanglijnen (Donizetti de operacomponist is nooit veraf), maar eveneens met verrassend raffinement. De eerste schijf werd opgenomen in onze eigenste MIRY. Wij stellen ze graag aan je voor, in combinatie met een innemend kwartet van Haydn.
For the last few years, the Conservatory has enjoyed the company of a Florentine quartet with a special mission: to bring the Italian repertoire for string quartet back to life. And that of course on original instruments. As advanced master and postgraduate students, they are studying with Alessandro Moccia. After focussing on Vincenzo Manfredini, the Quartetto Delfico is now working on the complete (18!) quartets by Gaetano Donizetti. These neglected works offer a choice example of music written in the 1820s, with compelling songlines (Donizetti the opera composer is never far away), as well as surprising refinement. The first disc was recorded here at our MIRY. We will be delighted to introduce them to you, together with an additional, compelling Haydn quartet.
