Letzte Blätter is dan wel Duits voor ‘Laatste bladzijden’, toen Richard Strauss inspiratie vond in de gelijknamige bundel van Hermann von Gilm was de toondichter pas aan zijn allereerste liedcyclus toe. Qua lyrische zwaarte hoeft de Fransman Henri Duparc zeker niet onder te doen. Drie liederen van zijn hand herstellen het Frans-Duitse evenwicht. In het tweede deel van hun concert gaan Fabien Hyon & Philippe Riga de operatische toer Op. Ze grasduinden in het Franse repertoire en vonden daar aria’s van Bizet en Massenet, beide over een afwezige geliefde. Afsluiten doen ze in hetzelfde thema met de absolute meezinger van Mozart Dies Bildnis ist bezaubernd schön. Gelieve desalniettemin niet mee te zingen.
Letzte Blätter is German for ‘last pages’, for which Richard Strauss found inspiration in the eponymous collection by Hermann von Gilm, when the composer was in fact composing his first cycle of songs. In terms of lyrical weight, Frenchman Henri Duparc can certainly keep pace, with his three songs restoring the Franco-German balance. In the second part of their concert, Fabien Hyon & Philippe Riga follow the operatic trail, browsing in the French repertoire, discovering arias by Bizet and Massenet, both about an absent loved one. They conclude in a similar tone with Mozart’s absolute sing-along, Dies Bildnis ist bezaubernd schön (even if we’d rather you didn’t sing along).
