Hoewel doctorandus aan het Orpheus instituut Nadav Katan geen zanger of zangeres meetroont, staat in zijn recital eerder de dichter dan de componist centraal. De jonge Israëlische pianist steekt zijn romantische fascinatie voor het woord niet onder stoelen of banken. Arrangementen van fantasierijke aria’s uit het Duitse lied- en operarepertoire als Orpheo & Euridice, Widmung of Gretchen am Spinnrade zetten de krijtlijnen uit. Wordt de zangmelodie in deze werken kundig doch post factum in de hogere regionen van het klavier gearrangeerd, bij Chopin en veellezer Schumann is de versmelting van woord en muziek reeds in de knop aanwezig. In de Kinderszenen van die laatste dragen alle deeltjes zoals wel vaker quasi-programmatische titels. Zijn poëtische ‘Der Dichter Spricht’ vormt dan ook de ideale afsluiter van een lyrische avond.
Orpheus Institute PhD candidate Nadav Katan’s recital centres on the poet more than the composer. This young Israeli pianist celebrates a romantic fascination with the word. Arrangements of imaginative arias from German song and opera, including Orpheo & Euridice, Widmung and Gretchen am Spinnrade set the pace. While the song melodies are in the higher piano regions, with Chopin and Schumann, the unification of words and music is immediate. Schumann’s poetic ‘Der Dichter Spricht’ is the ideal ending to a lyrical evening.
