In zijn nieuwste boek Het Landschap van de Polyfonisten (2018) ontwikkelt Paul Van Nevel de stelling dat de ervaring van de natuur en van de landschappen waarin de Franco-Vlaamse polyfonisten opgroeiden, bepalend was voor de melancholie in heel wat van hun muziek. Dit concert dompelt je dan ook onder in de stemming waarvan Aristoteles vond dat zij, door haar onthechtheid, ruimte schept voor het geniale, grensverleggende en creatieve in de mens. Landschapsfoto’s van Luk Van Eeckhout begeleiden de muziek. Paul Van Nevel is een pionier van de oude-muziek-beweging in Europa. In 1971 stichtte hij het Huelgas Ensemble, dat tot op vandaag internationaal toonaangevend is voor de historische uitvoering van muziek uit de twaalfde tot zestiende eeuw. Het ensemble brengt twaalf-stemmige polyfonie.
In his latest book The Landscape of Polyphonists (2018) Paul Van Nevel argues that the experience of nature and of the landscapes in which the Franco-Flemish polyphonists grew up was decisive for the melancholy mood of a lot of their music. This concert immerses you in the mood of which Aristotle wrote that, because of its detachment, it creates space for the brilliant, ground-breaking and creative in man. Paul Van Nevel is a pioneer of the old music movement in Europe. In 1971 he founded the Huelgas Ensemble, which is still the international leader with regards to the historically informed performance practice of music from the twelfth to the sixteenth century.
