Als trotse partner van de European Chamber Music Academy mogen we met Gent Festival van Vlaanderen ook dit jaar weer enkele jonge topensembles verwelkomen. Na masterclasses van onder meer Johannes Meissl en Avedis Kouyoumdjian krijgen ze een middag en een avond de kans hun statuut van ‘meer dan beloftevol’ waar te maken. Het grote repertoire wordt daarbij niet geschuwd. De drie stukken geven elk een heel apart beeld van wat kamermuziek kan zijn. Haydn’s laatste trio’s zijn alle opgedragen aan sterpianiste Therese Jansen Bartolozzi. Dat valt eraan te horen. Viool en cello becommentariëren een briljante toetsenpartij. Sjostakovitsj eerste pianotrio, hoewel een erg vroeg werk, bevat al de kiemen van het grimmige kleurenpalet dat hem later zo eigen zal worden. Saint-Saëns staat in het midden: evenwichtige retoriek, waar elk instrument in zijn eigenheid tot het geheel bijdraagt en beurtelings het voortouw neemt.
As a proud partner of the European Chamber Music Academy, we can once again welcome top young ensembles for the Festival of Flanders. For two evenings, following master classes by Johannes Meissl, Avedis Kouyoumdjian and others, they will be revealing their more than promising status. Nor do they avoid the great repertoire. Each of the three works they perform offers a very
separate picture of what chamber music can be. Haydns last trios were all dedicated to star pianist Therese Jansen Bartolozzi. We still hear that in them, as the violin and cello comment on a brilliant keyboard part. Shostakovich first piano trio boasts youthful romanticism, yet already contains a touch of the grimness of his later years. Saint-Saens stands in the middle: with balanced rhetoric, where each instrument contributes to the whole in its own unique way, taking the lead in turn.
