Metaforen durven als eens bij het haar getrokken zijn, maar met de zogenoemde aquilonis krijgen we deze keer vat op zowel programma als uitvoerder. Zoals deze wind van noord naar zuid waait, zo ook wervelt het Scandinavische Trio Mediæval al twee decennia over de wereld. Werd het drietal aanvankelijk wereldberoemd met hun interpretaties van middeleeuwse polyfonie, al gauw raakten hun zanglijnen ook verstrengeld met meer hedendaagse kunstmuziek. Getuige daarvan hun passage in MIRY Concertzaal.
Noorse traditionals als Fryd dig du Kristi brud staan er naast Gregoriaanse antifonen en het jongere klankenfiligraan van Engelsman Andrew Smith. Ama is de gebiedende wijs van amare, Latijn voor beminnen, en eveneens is het de titel van Anders Jormins kristalheldere toonzetting van een gedicht van Vergilius. Daarmee zijn we in Rome beland, de zuidelijke eindbestemming van deze avond.

blows from north to south, the Scandinavian Trio Mediæval has been whirling around the world for two decades. Initially world-famous for their interpretations of medieval polyphony, their vocal lines soon became intertwined with more contemporary art music. Witness their passage through the MIRY Concert Hall. Norwegian traditionals such as ‘Fryd dig du Kristi brud’ appear alongside Gregorian antiphons and the younger sound filigree of Englishman Andrew Smith. Ama is the imperative of amare, Latin for love, and it is also the title of Anders Jormin’s crystal-clear setting of a poem by Virgil. This brings us to Rome, this ening’s southern and final destination.
